RAISE is creating an Interconnected Startup Space and Supporting New Startup Business Models

Successful startups are not RAISEd to the top only because of their products or services, but rather due to their connections, action plans and access to important resources. However, not all early-stage startups get so lucky.

This is why 5 project consortium partners are building RAISE, a Horizon Europe project that will cover the full spectrum of needs that a seed stage startup may require and be their lighthouse throughout the whole process.

No more winning the startup lottery! Every startup will have an equal chance at success, with access to top-quality information and training. They will be given all the possible tools to grow, and finally, all the players in the EU startup ecosystem under one umbrella will be linked to help them scale up.

RAISE will develop a long-term collaboration and action plan for the establishment of a virtual interconnected space for EU start-ups to scale up, building on established pan-European associations for the most relevant dimensions of startup support (public incentives, research and innovation, private seed funding) and on dynamic ecosystems in Europe.

RAISE will focus on a 3 steps structure to help companies scale up:

  • Launch a Community of Practice through the Creation of An Interconnected Startup Space:

Establish sustainable and in-depth links between the partners and local, regional, or national ecosystems and launch a community of practice that will contribute to an interconnected space and will facilitate the growth of scale-ups in Europe.

  • Common Action Plan Development Supporting New Startup Business Models:

Design, refine and further develop a common action plan for supporting new startup business models into solid technical and conceptual frameworks at the EU and global level, from the conceptual, technical, financial, societal, and legal points of view.

  • Common Action Plan Highlighting Best Practices/Policies:

Map and promote support activities to startups conducted at the regional level across Europe and mobilise regional efforts to address relevant barriers to startups’ growth, such as the harmonisation of policies and regulations, access to talent and major research infrastructures.

RAISE-ing up startups and promoting a healthy ecosystem as well as productive entrepreneurship perfectly aligns with our partners’ main goals. By helping the European early-stage sector we are planning to act in the whole spectrum of startup support and growth. Our goal is to facilitate the growth of the early-stage sector at the pan-European level and actively contribute to the ecosystem’s flourishment.

Join our Forum to build collaboration amongst key players of the innovation ecosystem, and create a joint agenda that will contribute to the growth and scale-up of start-ups. Want to find out more about this? Write to us at info@theraise.eu.

In June 2022, SERN kicked off another project – RAISE: The Regions Alliance for Interconnected Startup Ecosystems!

The main goal of the project is to contribute to the development of a new, sustainable, and integrated framework of support that fosters startup growth and scale-up within and across Europe in all its dimensions: from initial funding and research support to public incentives and internationalization.

To meet this ambitious goal, SERN is leading a consortium composed of the European Business Angels Network (EBAN), the European Association of Development Agencies (EURADA), the Foundation FUNDECYT Scientific and Technological Park of Extremadura (FUNDECYT-PCTEX), and International Consortium of Research Staff Associations (ICoRSA). All organisations are active at the European level spanning the whole spectrum of startup support and growth: access to public funding, business angels, research & innovation.

The consortium is starting by setting up the Open Startup Forum to connect the stakeholders in a common space and start creating the conditions for further exchanges and cooperation.
The idea is to build on that platform to create links between the different stakeholders, and then design, implement and track pilot Actions for the promotion of startups and scaleups in the EU.

RAISE is a Horizon Europe-funded project of 24 months that started on 1st June 2022 with estimated eligible costs of €498,625.00 (maximum grant amount is €498,625.00).

Startup Europe has drastically changed Europe’s start-up landscape over the last 4 years, putting start-ups and entrepreneurship high on the EU political agenda. This initiative could unite start-up ecosystems across Europe, and launch a true convergence movement to build a “start-up-friendly Europe”, through projects and other initiatives.

RAISE will develop a long-term collaboration and action plan for the establishment of a virtual interconnected space for EU start-ups to scale up, building on established pan-European associations for the most relevant dimensions  of  start-up  support (public  incentives,  research  and  innovation,  private  seed funding) and on dynamic ecosystems in Europe.

The RAISE concept is an integrated approach that builds on the synergy and complementarity of several pan-European dimensions in order to cover the full cycle of support to start-up and scaleup.

Objectives

The main goal of this proposal is to contribute to the development of a new and sustainable integrated support framework to foster start-up growth and scale-up across Europe in all its dimensions, from initial funding, to research support to public incentives and internationalisation.  This will result in promoting competitive business models, unconventional products and solutions, in all over Europe, and contributing to the establishment of a true EU start-up ecosystem.

The project specifically aims to:

  1. To link the 63 regions represented under SERN, with the200+ investors that are EBAN members, the 65 innovation and development agencies in EURADA, the 160,000 researchers worldwide via ICORSA’s member associations, and the 350 science and technology parks gathered under IASP represented by F-PCTEX and open the resulting virtual connected space to start-ups and entrepreneurs from across Europe;
  2. To plan common actions to help start-ups scale up through privileged links to regional funding instruments, major research actors and with EU Investor communities, such as business angels;
  3. Reach out to other regions, inclusive outside Europe, and contribute to develop start-up friendly regional policies and interconnected ecosystems;
  4. Contribute to the overall visibility of the resulting integrated start-up support framework through a mix of targeted and high-level communication actions.
