RAISE Workshop: Empowering Startups and Building Community
RAISE Workshop: Empowering Startups and Building Community 1024 1024 RAISE fosters startup growth and scale-up within and across Europe

An Exciting Workshop: RAISE.EU Shines at EWRC

On October 11th, the RAISE Project hosted an engaging workshop during the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC). Consequently, this event celebrated collaboration and underscored the importance of fostering a sense of community within the startup ecosystem.

EWRC: A Gathering of Regional Innovators

First and foremost, the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC) is an annual event that unites policymakers, regional representatives, and experts to discuss regional development and innovation. This year, on October 11th, all eyes were on the RAISE Project as it organized an informative and engaging workshop.

Empowering Startups and Scale-Ups

Moreover, the workshop was meticulously designed to provide participants with a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. Its primary focus was on nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit and equipping startups and scale-ups with the tools they need to thrive.

Dynamic Presentations Illuminate the Way

To begin with, SERN’s Secretary General, Chiara Frencia, kicked off the event with a dynamic presentation about the RAISE Project. Her insights illuminated the project’s goals, setting the stage for a day of enlightenment.

The Role of the Regional Steering Group

Additionally, Giacomo Frisanco, representing EURADA, a project partner, took the stage to delve into the Regional Steering Group. This group, established within the framework of the RAISE project, comprises 10 high-level policy experts from various regions. They “steer and validate the future action plan activities and assume responsibility for organizing events in their regions to promote startup-friendly policies.” These insights offered a glimpse into the project’s inner workings, dedicated to empowering startups and fostering innovation.

Unlocking the World of European Funds

Furthermore, one of the workshop’s highlights was the presentation of the Head of Unit of EIC Accelerator, Cornelius Schmaltz’s presentation about the world of European funds. His insights prove invaluable for startups and entrepreneurs facing funding challenges, offering guidance on how to harness European funds for innovation and growth.

Active Learning: Engaging Workshops

In addition, the workshop featured an interactive game presented by SERN representative, Giorgio Alessandro. The game, inspired by the “Shark Tank” show, encouraged participation and lively discussion, reinforcing the idea that knowledge is best acquired through hands-on experience.

Empowering Innovators and Building a Community

Equally important, the workshop’s success attests to the importance of initiatives like RAISE. It goes beyond providing support for startups; it’s about fostering a community where ideas are shared, and dreams are nurtured. This collaborative spirit drives innovation and serves as a catalyst for the growth and prosperity of startups and scale-ups.

A Bright Future for Startups

In conclusion, looking ahead, initiatives like RAISE will continue to play a pivotal role in empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs. The knowledge, insights, and sense of community cultivated in workshops like this will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the European startup ecosystem.

A marvelous opportunity: Start-ups Coaching Sessions: Business Partnership Action
A marvelous opportunity: Start-ups Coaching Sessions: Business Partnership Action 940 529 RAISE fosters startup growth and scale-up within and across Europe

During the upcoming period, RAISE, an EU-funded project committed to promoting the growth and scaling of startups across Europe, will be hosting four coaching sessions for startups.

The four coaching sessions (free of charge) aim to provide valuable insights and practical solutions for European start-ups to improve their business models and partnerships. The sessions will offer personalised coaching and interactive learning activities to help participants understand key concepts and develop their skills. The four  Workshops will address the following 4 topics: The Lean Canvas, The Unique Value Propositions CanvasApproaching risk capital investors, and How to master your pitch.

Event details

The Region Alliance for Interconnected Startup Ecosystems – RAISE – project aims at developing a new and sustainable integrated support framework to foster startup growth and scale-up across Europe. It targets companies that have already achieved first results, possibly supported by regional programmes, and are now aiming to grow. In this framework, the project partners are required to implement several pilot actions, among which there are training, mentoring, and networking sessions that will help startup promoters to get in contact with the appropriate mentors and trainers who can help them gain access to their target markets.

Objective: The coaching session aims to provide valuable insights and practical solutions for start-ups to improve their business models and partnerships. The session will offer personalised coaching and interactive learning activities to help participants understand key concepts and develop their skills.

Target Audience: The coaching session is designed for start-up founders and representatives who are looking to enhance their understanding of business partnership actions.

Approach: The coaching will revolve around a total of 4 online workshops of 90 minutes each. The structure of each workshop will be a sum of a theoretical session and a practical one.

Workshops (free of charge):

  • October 18, Workshop 1- The Lean Canvas
One of the main failures for early-stage startups is that there is no market needs for the products/services they are developing. Thus to avoid falling into this statistic, it is important for early-stage startups to explore the Lean Canvas as a strategic planning tool.
  • November 6, Workshop 2 – The Unique Value Propositions Canvas
The first goal in adopting the Lean Canvas is to reach the Problem-solution fit which is basically when a startup is developing a solution for a specific need(s) for the customers. In order to reach this goal, startups need to use the UVP as a strategic tool.
  • November 21, Workshop 3 – Approaching risk capital investors
High-growth early-stage startups need money to scale and boost their activities. It is important that the founders understand which are the kind of investors in the market and which is the best way to approach them.
  • December 5, Workshop 4 – How to master your pitch
The first approach to investors is the key to increasing the odds of getting the funds. Thus, preparing a great pitch is crucial to achieve this first step.

SERN Empowered Startups with Comprehensive Business Model Pilot Actions
SERN Empowered Startups with Comprehensive Business Model Pilot Actions 900 900 RAISE fosters startup growth and scale-up within and across Europe

As part of the RAISE project’s goals, SERN dedicated its efforts to bolstering startups in refining their business models through a series of targeted pilot actions. These initiatives engaged startup representatives, a diverse array of entrepreneurs, and organizations devoted to supporting entrepreneurship, facilitating meaningful connections between startup founders and mentors.

SERN provided insightful advice and support in developing comprehensive “role-model” business plans, leveraging information gathered at the idea stage. The analysis focused on applications, production and industrialization, target markets, competitors, price definition, financial needs, impact measurement, and time to market.

Successful Coaching Session for Startup Founders

In a significant step towards fostering startup growth across Europe, SERN recently hosted an informative coaching session tailored for startup founders and representatives. Held in September in Brussels, this event aimed to develop a sustainable, integrated support framework to enhance startup growth and scale-up across all dimensions, from initial funding and research support to public incentives and internationalization.

The full-day coaching session was divided into two distinct parts, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for all attendees.

Expert-Led Overview

External experts delivered a thorough overview of business model actions and business partnership actions. They addressed specific challenges identified by participants through a pre-session form, enabling a tailored coaching experience.

Interactive Learning

Participants were split into two groups, attending individualized coaching sessions with an expert for each topic. Interactive activities, such as role-plays and case studies, allowed participants to apply the concepts learned in the morning session. After approximately 1.5 hours, the groups rotated to attend the session with the other expert, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of both business model actions and business partnership actions.

A series of events has been organized, including:

  1. Startup Coaching Session on Business ModelsThis session featured theoretical introductions, defining product targets, value proposition theses, a Proposition Canvas, practical exercises, and interactive activities. Participants identified issues related to their business models and received mentor feedback for improvement.
  2. Informative Session with EIC AcceleratorHeld during the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels, this session provided information on the EIC Accelerator, which supports startups and SMEs in scaling high-impact innovations. The session included a simulation of a European funding competition where participants pitched their ideas to a jury of funding experts.
  3. Online Brokerage EventIn collaboration with another EU project, this event connected startups with potential investors and partners, enhancing their business networks and opportunities.

Development of Business Models: Equipping Startups with the Tools for Successful Market Entry and Growth

By actively engaging in these events, participants identified promising funding opportunities and honed their pitching skills. The European funding competition simulation, in particular, helped startups refine their presentation abilities. The coaching session concluded with a networking event, fostering potential collaborations and knowledge-sharing among participants. Additionally, participants were offered follow-up coaching sessions for further support.

Through these comprehensive pilot actions, SERN has significantly contributed to the development of business models, equipping startups with the tools and insights necessary for successful market entry and growth. This event marks a significant milestone in the RAISE project’s ongoing efforts to support and scale up startups across Europe.
